People suffer car accidents every day. Factually speaking, the CDC has reported that 3,700 people end up in fatal accidents a day, which comes to millions each year. While many accidents are fatal, people who survive car collisions suffer from debilitating injuries, such as paralysis, skull fractures and internal bleeding.

There are many reasons why a car accident would happen. Here’s what you should know:

What causes accidents?

While every car accident is unique, there are many common patterns among them. The following are just a few causes:

  • Distracted driving: People constantly get distracted throughout their day, which can be deadly behind the wheel. The three main causes of distracted driving are visual, manual and cognitive distractions. For example, some of the most common causes of distracted driving are phones, food and passengers.
  • Drunk drivers: While illegal, people may drive while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Drugs and alcohol can have varying effects on a driver, such as slowing their reaction time and impairing their judgment and concentration.
  • Fatigued driving: In some cases driving while tired may be just as bad as drunk driving. A driver suffering from fatigue may experience many of the same symptoms a drunk driver would, such as poor vision and limited motor skills.
  • Inexperienced drivers: everyone was learning to drive at one time. While most people forget, it can be quite frightening to start driving amongst others. However, because of a new driver’s inexperience, they may end up in a car accident.

If you end up in a car accident, you may suffer from injuries, high medical bills and car repairs. When seeking compensation after a negligent driver injuries, it may benefit you to understand your legal options.
